As oxygen-rich (and carbon dioxide-poor) blood travels via a cell the oxygen diffuses through the cell membrane to the area of lower concentration inside of the cellular. It can do this easily as a result of the oxygen molecule (O2) could be very small and has no fee or polarity. The oxygen is used up hastily via mitochondria.
